I’ve never actually had a personal blog. So, I decided to follow my wife’s example, and try not writing for some career or side project for once, and give it a try… starting with this year, since, well, it’s been a big one.
I totally got hitched to my beautiful wife, Kelley (now) Deal. We knew each other for a really long time, and I’m not sure if I saw this all coming together, but I’m glad it did. It feels really great to be married in a way that I never imagined it could. I also remember portions of the actual wedding.
We had a small ceremony at my Mom’s house. It was simple, but classy and everyone seemed have a good time. A day after the wedding, we went to Alaska for a two week honeymoon. Kelley got me a camera and nifty-fifty as a wedding gift, so I’ll be posting up some galleries of me learning to use said camera in the Alaskan wilderness. And by wilderness, I mean from the inside of a Chevy Spark rental, which was our beast of burden.
I’ve spent the past couple years with Trupoint Marketing in Winston-Salem – where I’d cut my teeth from an agency perspective after coming from freelancing with small and medium business clients. This March I started with Atlantic BT and, needless to say, I’m pretty happy. It’s a totally different world coming from a smaller agency to a big one.
The pace, the resources, the range of clients — I think it was a great move. I really miss the guys I worked with a Trupoint, but I think career-wise it was the best move for me. The people I’ve met at Atlantic BT make it an incredible opportunity for me to learn and grow.
My Little Girl
Everyone in my department has children, so as my wife finally conceded to getting a dog, I started acting like a parent, too. We saw a litter of puppies on Craigslist and liked the grey one, so we drove four hours to Clemson to get this little beast. We named her Georgia because it’s fit for a lady and we picked her up about 20 miles from the state line.
She’s kind of an asshole dog in that does what she want. But she’s real cute, so I give her lots of treats anyways. I’m also pretty sure one of her ears is defective since it’s bent like she’s was in a really strong hurricane.
A random side note was that someone in my family thought she was so cool, that they went the very next day and got her brother, Bigby, who now lives with my sister. Brother and sister have brother and sister puppies.
She’s super smart though. I don’t know a thing about training dogs and she picked up sit and down in two weekends. Really people. Got a genius dog on our hands here.
Death to MRKT, Long Live MRKT
Originally, I decided to make this site an actual brand. Then I realized I did not have time nor resources to make that happen. Now, this is simply the place where I complain about aspects of digital marketing. MRKT already occupied a namespace on the web. Most of the traffic here is related to freelance work locally or specific niche audiences — it makes more sense as a personal site attach to a person, which is me.
